Self-introduction: Aki Oki
Language Learning and Me
My hobby is learning foreign languages. I want to learn the native languages of my overseas friends, so I'm currently studying English, Chinese, Korean, and French.
Encounter with English
When I was in college, I participated in a short-term study abroad program in the UK for one month and also went to Taiwan for an exchange program for about a year.
When I was in primary school, I envied a friend who was very good at English, so I joined an English summer camp. It was the first time I experienced the joy of communicating in English.
When I was in junior high school, I participated in an English speech competition; when I was in high school, I asked my ALT teacher to help me revise my English diary. These experiences have helped me continuously improve my English skills.
Two study abroad experiences
While studying in the UK, I experienced both the joy of communicating with friends from all over the world and the challenges of living in a foreign country.
While studying abroad in Taiwan, I learned Chinese (Taiwanese Mandarin). My choice of Taiwan for my second study abroad destination was influenced by my brother, who had lived there for a long time. During my time abroad, I joined a tea ceremony club and learned tea ceremony and kimono dressing with Taiwanese classmates.

Interest in Japanese culture
Some people may be curious: "Why choose tea ceremony when studying in Taiwan?"
Before studying abroad in Taiwan, I was often asked questions about Japanese culture by overseas friends, but I wasn't familiar with it at the time, so I couldn't answer them properly. That's why I decided to study Japanese culture more deeply while studying abroad.
Looking at Japan from abroad, we also see ourselves
After going abroad, I actually gained a deeper understanding of Japan, which was an unexpected gain for me.
When I was studying abroad, I taught Japanese to my friends and they understood my explanations. That joy became one of the reasons why I decided to become a Japanese teacher.
Another opportunity came from my mother. She volunteered to teach Japanese to foreigners, which made my life even more fulfilling. Watching her, I began to imagine myself becoming a Japanese language teacher.
Expectations as a Japanese teacher
I hope to continue to "discover a new self" together with the learners.
I hope you will give me more advice in the future.
